Buh-bye Dr. Zizmor ads on the Subway…
Have you heard the news yet? Dr. Zizmor and his ageless face (he's really 71?) is retiring! His face seems to have been there for as long as I can remember. And now it will just disappear! I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad about it, or if I really even care to be honest. But he has given me reason to pause & reflect on many occasions over the years when I'm endlessly trapped in a subway car: "Is this guy a real doctor?"… "Could I also look tighter, firmer, and younger?"… "Could these ads look any more fake & ridiculous and has anyone actually gone to him?"… "Why is his face so pink?"… And finally, "Is this guy really the Mona Lisa in disguise with that ambiguous smile on his face?"
Anyway, everyone has seen Dr. Zizmor on the subway at some point. And I even read about Zizmor devotees who think his departure from the subway is so huge that a statue should be erected in his honor. That would be pretty funny, actually. I guess losing the (iconic?) Dr. Zizmor is a big deal. How do you feel about it?
Personally, I can think of a very long list of other things we can definitely afford to lose on the subway too, but don't seem to be going away anytime soon: train traffic, sick passenger, dirty platforms & subway cars, undecipherable conductor announcements, sardine-packed cars, creepy strangers rubbing up against us….but I digress. That's not the point here. Farewell Dr. Z. And thank you for being there for us all these years!
