NYC FIND: MastihaShop on the LES – Naturally Good & Healthy Chic Boutique

On my summer vacations in Greece as a child, I was always intrigued by a particular type of gum that was called "mastiha" or "μαστίχα" in Greek.   It was this unusual tasting but refreshing gum that looked like chiclets.  Remember those?  In any case, I later learned that mastiha is more than just gum, and I no longer have to travel all the way to Greece to find it!

 The MastihaShop opened in NYC several years ago.  It's a place where one can find all things Mastiha!  And it was there that I learned new & interesting things about mastiha, its origins, and its many different uses which include much more than just gum!

Mastiha is a good-for-you resin from mastic trees, small evergreens that are native to the Greek island of Chios.  This resin adds an aromatic flavor to anything it's used for, and it is full of anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory qualities.
